One Last Hoorah

We made our last camping trip of the year last weekend.  I'm so sad summer is coming to an end and that there will be no more camping until next summer (or maybe spring!).  Prior to this last camping trip Denver had started to love riding on the tube behind the boat.  For those of you who do not know I absolutely LOVE tubing and am so excited that my little man has found this fun too!  He was very disappointed that he couldn't go tubing this trip, but it just wasn't warm enough.  The last time we went he had a blast going a decent speed and we almost fell off and he didn't care!  Oh are we going to have fun next summer!

We went up to Lake Poinsett for this last hoorah and are so thankful that's where we went.  We rented a cabin and it was right by the shoreline so the boys were able to always have a rod in the water.  The cabin was pretty secluded from the rest of the campsite so I didn't have to worry about cars driving and the kids running.  And, most importantly, the fishing was good!  I'm pretty sure its safe to say that Evan had a blast.

Evan handed Makenna this fish to hold and at first she liked it, then she was done, but she would NOT drop it and Evan was busy so he couldn't take it back.  She hung out to it whining for him to stop and take it from her.

Every morning after breakfast we took the boat out to do a little fishing and looking around the lake.  It was a nice time to be out on the lake as the kids were happy for the most part and it was beautiful.  We couldn't have picked a better weekend to go as far as weather goes.

We talked about how far this lil girl has come from the beginning of the "season". She doesn't mind her life jacket and she is so much more content in the boat.

Our last night there, one of our good friends, Brandon, came up to go fishing with us (or should I say Evan!) and the boys caught lots of good sized walleyes.  I was kept pretty busy between making sure my children were safe, out of the way, and happy, and then running back and forth on the boat with the net for the boys.

We had a camp fire every night which Denver loved.  Makenna was always too tired that she'd have to miss out, but she got in on it the last night and I think she liked it too.  She would come closer and say "ho" (for hot) and she loved sitting in the chair just relaxing by the fire.

Our last morning we had an amazing breakfast.  When we had gone camping with my extended family the beginning of August, one of my aunts and cousins were telling me how they made omelets in a bag.  We decided we had to try this while camping and have decided we may even do this at home as they were delicious!  I meant to take pictures of all the ingredients and of the final product, but I forgot until we were almost done so you get to see a picture of an almost completely eat omelet in a bag.  They are so easy, little mess, and so yummy!  We did have an interesting time trying to get water to boil on our grill, but it finally boiled!

Both kids loved their omelets and ate so good!

I think its safe to say we will probably be doing more camping next summer.  We all love it so much.  We've kind of figured out different tricks to make it so it isn't so hard with the little ones and they'll be bigger next year so it will be easier yet....no pack and play to haul next year!

My latest project!

One of my really good friends little girl just turned 1!  We had seen some cute little outfits at a convention we had been at and I decided I was up for the challenge of making it and saving her the mucho dinero.  Here's the finished product.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, especially for it being my first one.

I decided the hanger didn't do it justice so Makenna modeled it for the camera.

Makenna has turned into our little book reader.  She LOVES to sit and look at books and now she loves to read them out loud.  Here's a little of what we hear quite often in our house. (This video was taken on the way to our last camping trip....another blog for our trip will be coming)

Turner County Fair 2010

The 4 best days of summer had to be taken in over a short evening trip for our family this year.  Maybe next year the kids and I can go a little more, but they are just a little too young for me to have the energy to do that yet.  We had a fabulous time at the fair as a family.  The kids enjoyed rides, looking around, and we all enjoyed the food!  I'd like to go every day just for the food!

Denver of course remembered the rides and couldn't wait to get on, but this was some thing new for Makenna.  It didn't take long and she compltely understood what her brother was so excited about and she was right there with him.  Hanging on the fence waiting to get on the ride and begging for more rides when it was time to go home.

Both the kids enjoyed Old McDonals farm, but I think Makenna LOVED it as she gets so excited over animals and being ale to be close and touch!

Dede and Kenna

"Dede" and "Kenna" (what they call each other...at least Dede is the best I can come up with from listening to Makenna call for her big brother) are the best of friends. They play so nice with each other, and they are always wondering where the other is when they don't see their sibling the minute they get up in the morning or after naps, or what ever, and most of all they love each other My heart is filled with so much joy to see my 2 little ones playing together. I was so worried about having two children so close in age, but it has brought so much joy AND help to us than I could have ever imagined. Its so nice how they can play nice with each other so I can get some thing done. With that said we have many times where they fight and do not get a long, but I'd say more often than not they are playing with each other....even if it ends up getting too rough and tears are shed in the end. Makenna has learned how to hold her own and now knows how to steal toys away from Denver. It won't be long and if he decides to bop her one I expect to see her bopping him right back!
