Sickness Update

Just thought I'd do an update on our sick kiddos.  Denver has improved tremendously.  He still coughs once in a while, but I don't think I've had to wipe his nose once today and he's been motrin free for over 24 hours now.  Makenna on the other hand has struggled a little more.  She got sick one day later and seems to be running the same course as Denver, but has been a little more miserable.  Last night when I was putting her pj's on I noticed she looked slightly blue above her top lip and then she started crying and she looked dusky around her mouth so we decided it was time to take her to the clinic.  I'm glad we finally went to the clinic just to put me at ease that they don't have something bacterial that needs antibiotics and my stubborness in turn was making them sicker.  The PA that was on was very impressed with her assessment.  She at the time sounded clear (which I agreed for the most part she is, on occassion I could hear some wheezes, but not real often), her ears looked good, her throat looked good, etc, etc.  He decided to do a blood test to confirm that it was viral and said we didn't need to do a RSV test as it wouldn't change how we would treat her.  I was thankful for that for Makenna's sake (they suck their nose out for this test) and for our bank account as those tests are around $200 and our insurance puts it towards deductible.  So the blood test in turn confirmed it was viral, and due to the duskiness around her lips at times and her tight cough he decided to put her on nebs.  Makenna hates her nebs like any baby, but I think they have helped. This morning she still seemed slightly dusy around her lips when she cried, but I haven't noticed it since then. Her cough sounds better and she definitely looks better! She also must feel better because she hasn't been very irritable and has been much happier.  Here are a couple pictures of our mad baby girl during her neb tonight.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We hope all of you had a great Valentine's Day today!  Evan and I decided it was definitely not our most romantic Valentine's day, but we still had a good day (for the most part).  Evan and I did splurge this year (other than birthdays which we don't usually get too crazy about we haven't bought each other gifts for a long time) and got each other gifts that we exchanged last night.  I got Evan a Keurig!  We've been having fun experimenting with it and Evan actually said it might be the best gift ever. :)  And Evan got me a special charm bracelet that I absolutely love!  This year has been a bit sressful at times with Evan's responsibilites of being part owner at the shop and it was nice to "show" each other how much we love each other by getting the other a fun gift!

Today we started our day off by going to Church, which both of us had in the back of our minds as we were getting ready..."is this really worth it?".  You see, we have 2 sicks kids.  If I had to guess, they both have RSV, therefore they could not go to the nursery.  It didn't take long and the kids got too loud and so we took turns out in the foyer with them.  During my turn Denver started coughing and ended up coughing so hard that he threw up.  In turn...we left Church before it was over!  We then came home for lunch, much needed naps, snowblowing the driveway, cleaning the house, laundry, pizza, watching the Olympics, and now for us adults...Evan playing Play Station and me blogging.  How romantic, huh? :)

Not such a fun 1st Valentine's Day

The kids are doing okay and since my guess is RSV I don't plan on taking anyone in to the clinic unless one or both of them start showing some signs of respiratory distress or if the fevers continue too long, as they can't do much for RSV (nebs is pretty much the only option unless they end up developing a bacterial infection on top of the RSV which is possible).  Please pray for a quick recovery as I want my happy "babies" back!  Until then we'll continue with the motrin to keep the fevers down which have gotten better, typically only 99 degrees.

I haven't had a chance to do Makenna's 9 month pictures yet, as I want to wait until she feels better, but that post will be coming soon, hopefully!
